Organization wants to keep GDC from August 4

The organization of the Game Developer Conference, which was canceled this month, has announced a new event for next summer. GDC Summer is to take place from August 4 to 6, the organization says.

GDC Summer is to take place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the organization says. It will be a three-day event, including a two-day exhibition. The setup is therefore slightly different from the GDC event that was planned for last week.

The stock market was canceled last week due to the recent global outbreak of the coronavirus. Even then, the organization, Informa Tech, announced that it was looking for a new date later in the summer to allow the fair to go ahead.

If all goes through later this year, GDC will be closer than usual to Gamescom in Cologne, which kicks off on August 25. Game fair E3 in June has already been canceled. Informa Tech seems to be aiming to organize another regular event in 2021. The organization says it is monitoring the virus outbreak to see if GDC Summer can continue.
