Oppo has announced its Oppo Watch. The rectangular smartwatch has an AMOLED screen with curved screen edges. The smartwatch runs on the Android-based ColorOS Watch and is very similar in design to Apple’s smartwatch.

Oppo announced the Oppo Watch on the same day it unveiled the X2 and X2 Pro. However, the company said at the end of that presentation that the smartwatch would be unveiled at a later time, “because it deserves its own event”. In any case, the product page has already been put online.

The Chinese company is releasing multiple versions of the wearable. For example, there will be a 46 mm version with a 1.91 “amoled screen that shows a resolution of 402×476 pixels and therefore has a pixel density of 326ppi. The screen is curved along the edges and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 72, according to the manufacturer. 76 percent.

The wearable supports e-SIM. Oppo has integrated two processors, a combination the company calls Dual-Chip Endurance System. An unnamed Snapdragon is available for daily use, presumably the somewhat older Snapdragon Wear 2500. In addition, there is an Apollo3 chip for economical operation on board. This Apollo3 chip from Ambiq Micro is built around an Arm Cortex M4 core at 96MHz.

With Smart Mode, the operation of the 46mm variant on a single battery charge can amount to about 40 hours. In the energy-efficient mode, 21 days is feasible, according to Oppo. Then the smartwatch only falls back on the basic functions, such as sending notifications. Oppo has adapted its VOOC charging technology for the smartwatch. As a result, the battery can be fully charged in an hour and fifteen minutes, while 46 percent would be charged after fifteen minutes.

The back has a ‘ceramic design’ and contains sensors for, among other things, measuring the heart rate. The wearable can thus show a daily overview of the wearer’s heart rate. Sleep monitoring is also possible, with overviews of deep and light sleep and the moment of waking up. The available functions can be expanded with apps via an app store.

The 46mm Watch from Oppo has a suggested retail price of 1999 Chinese yuan, converted to 254.65 euros. There will also be a 41mm variant with a 1.6″ screen and a battery life of 24 hours. It will cost 1499 yuan, converted to 191 euros. Finally, a 46mm model made of stainless steel with a sapphire layer will appear. It has a price of 2499 yuan, or 318.42 euros. The converted Chinese prices are standard lower than what the actual European suggested retail prices will be.

The operating system is the ‘Android-based’ ColorOS Watch, with which Oppo probably means Google Wear with its own skin. The Oppo Watch will be available in China from March 24, with other markets to follow sometime after.
