Opera is testing Ethereum wallet feature in Android mobile browser

Opera has released a beta version of its Android mobile browser that includes a built-in cryptocurrency wallet. In addition, there is support for Ethereum-based DApps and the web3 API.

The company refers to its new product as Opera Crypto. A built-in wallet, which also supports erc20 tokens, should allow users to transact. They don’t need to generate new PINs or passwords, as Opera says they can approve transactions through “Android’s system-lock feature,” perhaps meaning people can use their fingerprint. Encryption keys are stored locally on the phone, the company promises.

Furthermore, the wallet allows users to make online payments at services that use Coinbase Commerce. If a site requests information about a wallet, a user must provide consent before the browser provides this information. Opera also wants to add a so-called DApp Explorer, which will allow users to discover and use various Ethereum apps.

An example of such an app is CryptoKitties. Opera cites this example when it mentions support for unique erc721 collectibles. Users can sign up for the beta test through a dedicated site.
