Ookla reports that the median global 5G download speed was 203.04Mbps last quarter. According to the internet speed tester, this is twenty percent higher than during the same period last year. At the time, the global median was 168.7Mbps.

The internet speed tester says in a press release that the median global 5G upload speed last quarter was 18.93Mbps. During Q3 of 2022, that speed was almost the same with a median of 18.71Mbps.

The company also listed the ten countries where the median 5G download speed was the highest. The list shows that the United Arab Emirates takes the cake with a median of 592.01Mbps, followed by South Korea with a median of 507.59Mbps. The rest of the top ten is completed by Malaysia, Qatar, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Kuwait, Macau, Singapore and India.

Ookla also notes that many Asian countries made the list. According to the company, this is because the local governments of those countries have often taken supportive measures regarding 5G and certain spectrums were already available in those regions. The internet speed tester also notes that 5G has not yet achieved “the promised gigabit speeds” worldwide. According to Ookla, this is because the majority of 5G networks still rely on underlying 4G infrastructure.
