OnePlus X will not get a successor according to CEO

Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus, says there will be no successor to the OnePlus X. The company wants to focus on one model, the new OnePlus 3. With that strategy, the brand wants to put itself more firmly on the map.

According to the CEO, OnePlus does not want to compete in the low price segment and he suggests that the brand did not try enough last year to gain market share with a flagship. At the beginning of this year, co-founder Carl Pei already said that the goal was to bring back ‘the feeling’ with the OnePlus 3 that the brand managed to evoke with the first smartphone.

The OnePlus X was released after the release of the OnePlus 2. The X is a cheaper and smaller 5″ model, with specifications largely similar to those of the first OnePlus One. Although the smartphone was well reviewed, the manufacturer now wants to focus on “one true flagship,” Pete Lau told Engadget.

The OnePlus X is currently still being sold, just like the OPO and OP2. It is not known whether this only concerns stock or whether these devices are still being made new. A successor in the X-series will in any case not come, according to the CEO. This also excludes the arrival of a new smaller OnePlus.

The OnePlus 3 was presented on Tuesday evening. The device has a 5.5-inch OLED screen, a Snapdragon 820-soc, 6GB ram and 64GB ufs 2.0 storage memory. The smartphone costs 399 euros.
