The Oculus Quest 2 may get experimental support for a 120Hz mode in March. Oculus has put that feature on its roadmap for this month and is confident “medium” that that schedule will be met.

Oculus Quest Platform Roadmap

According to the Oculus Quest Platform roadmap, the experimental support for 120Hz will be implemented in two phases. There will be API support for developers first, and then there will be a toggle in the VR headset settings that allows users to choose to enable experimental mode. With this experimental implementation enabled, 120Hz mode will only work for apps that support it.

The Oculus Quest 2 had a refresh rate of 72Hz at release, but an experimental mode for 90Hz was already available at that time. That 90Hz mode is now officially available and the entire interface of the Quest 2 works with that refresh rate. Apps and games can also use the higher refresh rate.

If the Quest 2 gets support for a 120Hz mode, it will also be compatible with PC games, for example via the Virtual Desktop software for a wireless connection, or via the official Oculus Link software for a wired connection to a computer.
