Nvidia has received reports from customers that the European adapter plug head of its Shield tablets and set-top boxes may break, creating a risk of electric shock. The company has therefore launched a recall and says it will replace the affected products.

Nvidia writes that the housing of the adapter that contains the metal connectors of the plug can break, exposing metal pins. The company has so far received six reports of shocked customers. Nine messages report damage to the adapter.

A dedicated page allows users to request a replacement plug head. On that page, Nvidia mentions that it concerns adapters that were sold with European Shield tablets and set-top boxes between July 2014 and May 2017. In addition, the product appeared in the ‘world charger kits’, which contain plugs for different countries.

The product in question has the serial number SPA011AU5W2. According to Nvidia, only European plug heads are affected by the defect. Two years ago, the manufacturer already held a recall because the battery of Shield tablets was a fire hazard.
