Nothing will release its first smartphone Phone (1) next week in the Benelux for 469 euros. That has been announced by the manufacturer. This is the second product from the new manufacturer, after last year’s earplugs.

Nothing wants to differentiate its phone with some features. There are more than 900 LEDs on the back that make it possible, among other things, to see the charging status of the phone and to read, without looking at the screen, which app has given a notification or who is calling. Nothing calls it the Glyph Interface.

There are two elements in the Nothing OS software that the manufacturer wants to highlight. Quick Setting makes it possible to operate a Tesla car. This shows how many kilometers the car can still drive on the remaining battery charge, the air conditioning can be switched on and the doors can be opened. Integration with products from other brands would follow soon, but so far no company has announced anything about it.

There is also the NFT Gallery to view NFTs owned by users. This can also be done via a widget on the phone’s home screen. To increase the speed of the software, the phone runs infrequently used apps in the background to make frequently used apps start faster.

The phone has a 6.55″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The soc is a Snapdragon 778G+ from Qualcomm, a soc made at TSMC at 6nm. The + version of the soc differs from the regular because one of the four Cortex A78 cores can go up to 2.5GHz instead of 2.4GHz.The soc in the regular version is also included in the recently presented Xiaomi 12 Lite.

The phone has a Sony IMX766 main camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels and an area of around 50mm² with an optical format of 1/1.56″. In addition, there is a smaller camera with an ultra-wide angle lens: a Samsung JN1, with the same resolution of 50 megapixel, but a sensor area of around 20mm² The camera can focus at 4cm for macro photos.

The phone measures 15.9×7.6cm and is 8.3mm thick, with a weight of 194g. The device is made of tempered glass on the front and back, with an aluminum side. It is flattened and designed like an iPhone 12 or 13. The battery has a capacity of 4500mAh and can be charged wired with 33W, while wireless charging is done with 15W and reverse wireless charging with 5W. Nothing promises three years of Android upgrades and four years of security updates every two months. The variant with 8GB memory and 128GB storage costs 469 euros; the version with 256GB of storage costs 499 euros. A version with 12GB memory and 256GB storage will arrive at the end of the summer and will cost 549 euros. Tweakers will publish a review of the Nothing Phone (1) next week.
