Ninth Gen Intel Core processors support 128GB DDR4 memory

Intel Core processors of the ninth Core generation will support 128GB of DDR4 memory. The chipmaker says this after HP announced that one of its products would support ‘up to 128GB’ of DDR4 memory.

The Zbook variants with 128GB memory will be released in December, HP says. In a statement to Anandtech, Intel confirms that information and says the company is validating the necessary dimms and hopes to release an update in a few months that will allow Core i9s to support 128GB.

The supported processors are the i5-9600K, i7-9700K and i9-9900K. Intel has not commented on support for other processors and on support for 256GB systems on desktops, for example.

It is still unknown what 128GB of memory would cost with the new setup of 4x32GB of ‘double capacity’ strips, such as a recently presented copy of Zodak. The parts have only just become available and Anandtech is guessing based on current ddr4 prices that users would have to pay between 1200 and 1600 dollars.
