Nintendo has shown a working Switch console for the first time. The American branch of the company did that in the Jimmy Fallon show, by letting the host play the new Zelda game. Nintendo also demonstrated the first level of the Mario game for smartphones.

Both President of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aimé and the creator of many Mario games Shigeru Miyamoto attended the Jimmy Fallon show. After demonstrating Super Mario Run and the announcement that a demo of the mobile game can be played in Apple Stores worldwide from Thursday, Fallon can get started with the Nintendo Switch with the new Zelda game for a few minutes.

First, the game is shown on a big screen, while the Nintendo CEO plays the game with a controller. It then switches to the Switch’s mobile functionality and shows the show’s host continuing to play on the tablet-like device’s screen.

Since the announcement of the Switch in October, Nintendo has so far only shown a promotional video and images. While that commercial gives an idea of how the device works, it didn’t give a representative picture of what gaming on the Switch really looks like.

Nintendo will release the Switch in March 2017 and will announce more details about the console on January 12th. Then it will also be known what the Switch will cost. Super Mario Run will be released on December 15 for iOS and will also come to Android later, but when is not yet known.
