Nikon has announced the waterproof, shock and dust resistant Coolpix W300. Compared to the existing Nikon AW130 outdoor camera, the W300 has improved drop resistance to a height of 2.4 meters and recording in 4k resolution is possible.

The new camera is suitable for a depth of up to 30 meters underwater and can withstand temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius. The W300 has a 16-megapixel sensor with a sensor size of 1/2.3″, a focal length of 24-120mm and 5x optical zoom. These specifications are the same as its predecessor, the AW130. Videos can be recorded in 4k at 30fps or in full-motion. HD resolution with stereo sound. There is VR image stabilization that should compensate up to 5 stops. The W300 can shoot seven frames per second in burst mode. The aperture of the lens is f/2.8 in wide-angle position and f/4.9 in telephoto range .

The W300 has a 3″ LCD screen on the back with a resolution of 921,000 dots and is equipped with an anti-reflective coating against sunlight. A special button gives access to the GPS function, the electronic compass, the altimeter or the depth sounder. air pressure and water pressure can be measured. If the user is wearing gloves, the camera mode can be switched by moving the device. The W300 weighs 231 grams and has a slightly deeper grip than the AW130. Via the Snapbridge connection, users can send photos and videos to, for example, a smartphone.There is also WiFi and Bluetooth available.

Like the AW130, the W300 is available in black, orange, yellow and in a camouflage pattern. The camera will be available from the end of June for a price of 479 euros. This means that the price of the W300 is exactly the same as the suggested retail price of the Tough TG-5, a similar outdoor camera from Olympus. The W300 will also have to compete with Ricoh’s WG-50, which will also be released in June.
