Niantic is announcing major changes for Pokémon GO under the banner GO Beyond. The level cap in the mobile game will increase from 40 to 50 and the game will have seasons with different Pokémon appearing all the time.

Reaching the higher levels not only requires XP, but also requires players to complete tasks and earn medals. Existing medals, which are available in bronze, silver and gold, also come in platinum variants. Players receive such medals for catching a certain number of Pokémon, for example.

After increasing the level cap, players can also make their Pokémon stronger. According to Eurogamer XL, Candy is needed for this. Players can get that by converting regular Candy to XL Candy in bulk. Not all the requirements for the new levels from 40 to 50 are known yet, and the exact details about how to make Pokémon stronger with XL Candy are also missing.

Niantic will also add seasons to the game, with different Pokémon appearing all the time. A season lasts three months and the first starts on December 1. In-game events are also adapted to the seasons.

The GO Battle League, Pokémon GO’s pvp mode, gets a new ranking with 24 different levels. Now there are 10. According to Niantic, many players got stuck around rank 7 and by increasing the number, it remains possible for longer to rank up and receive corresponding rewards. GO Battle League will also work with seasons of three months, after which the ranking will be reset.

The changes to the level cap will be implemented from November 30th. Starting December 2, Niantic will also begin adding 6th-generation Pokémon from the Kalos region. It is the first time since its release in 2016 that Niantic has adjusted the level cap in Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO was released in the summer of 2016. According to analysts, the mobile game has raised more than $ 4 billion so far and 2020 was the best year financially to date. Worldwide, there are said to be nearly 600 million unique installations of Pokémon GO. Niantic itself does not provide details about the number of active players.
