Nest releases Thermostat E in the Benelux

Nest announces the Thermostat E for the European market. The smart thermostat has a modified design compared to the Thermostat V3, a standard and a Heat Link E with dust cover. Nest will make the thermostat available on October 16.

Nest reports that the thermostat can be installed in “up to an hour.” This is partly due to the Heat Link E that is included with the Thermostat E. The user connects it to the existing wiring, after which the thermostat can connect to it wirelessly. It is not known how large the maximum distance can be. With the previous models, there can be a distance of up to thirty meters between the thermostat and the Heat Link. The Thermostat E can be placed on surfaces in the house with its stand, but must be connected to a socket. A two meter long cable is available for this.

The smart thermostat has a preset schedule, which is based on the average consumption of European households. Setting a custom schedule based on preferences is also possible. In doing so, the thermostat learns the user’s pattern. Like its predecessors, the Thermostat E detects when no one is home and the temperature can be lowered.

The thermostat has a white plastic housing, which makes this version cheaper than previous Nest Thermostat models, which have a metal housing. The Thermostat E has a screen resolution of 320×320 pixels, compared to the 480×480 resolution of the Thermostat V3.

The Thermostat E has been available in North America since last year. However, the European version differs in a few respects, including the connection. The Heat Link E fits ‘almost every’ European thermostat connection.

The asking price for the Thermostat E is 219 euros. Despite its plastic housing and lower resolution, this is no longer much different from the price of the Nest Learning Thermostat V3 announced in 2015. However, Nest recommends using a paid Nest Pro installer to install that thermostat.
