NEC has started selling a new laptop in its LaVie line of ultrabooks in Japan. With a weight of 794 grams, the LaVie GZ is probably the lightest ultrabook with a 13.3″ screen on the market.

The NEC LaVie GZ has a thickness of 14.9mm and the ultrabook has a 13.3″ screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. NEC releases variants with an Intel Core i7-4510U or Core i5-4210U, combined with 4GB memory and an ssd with storage capacity up to 256 GB. In addition, there is an SD memory card reader, there are two USB 3.0 ports and there is hdmi. There is no touchscreen option as standard, but NEC does release a variant with IPS touchscreen with full HD resolution, but the weight of this model is immediately a bit higher at 964 grams.

Probably 794 grams is a record weight for an ultrabook. The previous generation of NEC’s LaVie ultrabook, the LaVie Z, weighed 875 grams, making it the lightest last year. The record for the thinnest ultrabook is probably in the name of the laptop Blade 13 Carbon from the Taiwanese company Inhon. That model is 10.7 mm thick and the weight is 870 grams. Like that model, NEC’s ultrabook will not hit the European market.
