More and more American teens say that Snapchat is their favorite social medium, while the number of followers of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter has decreased slightly. The information comes from a round of questions at schools.

About 47 percent of respondents say Snapchat is the social medium of their choice, while 24 percent choose Instagram. Facebook took third place with 9 percent, while Twitter continued the downward trend and ended up at 7 percent.

The number of respondents who answer ‘Snapchat’ when asked what their favorite social medium is has more than quadrupled in the six-monthly survey in recent years. At the same time, enthusiasm for Twitter and Facebook in particular declined.

Research firm PiperJaffray surveyed 6,100 teens in 44 US states for the study. The median household income of these children is slightly above the United States average.
