Microsoft will release two next-gen consoles next year

According to new rumors, Microsoft will release a second next-gen console next year. In addition to the already known Project Scarlett console Anaconda, it would be Lockhart, a cheaper version of the console. Lockhart does not have a disc tray.

Lockhart does have an SSD, Kotaku writes. It also gets a Zen2 CPU, just like Anaconda, but possibly lower clocked, says The Verge. Both sites have their own sources confirming the plan to release Lockhart within a year.

Anaconda is aimed at gaming in 4k at 60fps, while Lockhart should allow gaming at 1440p at 60fps. In addition to the less clocked CPU, there may be other downgrades, the most important of which is the lack of the drive tray. As a result, users can only download games, but not physically buy them in the store.

Earlier this year, Microsoft released the Xbox One S All Digital, a version of the Xbox One S without a disc tray. There were rumors about Lockhart before, but then it looked like Microsoft had canceled the console. There is no word yet on how much the consoles should cost.

The console builder has already partially announced Anaconda as Project Scarlett. The console has a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU and a Radeon Navi GPU with gddr6. It is a Navi GPU based on AMD’s next-generation RDNA architecture, with hardware support for ray tracing. There is also an SSD to enable shorter loading times.
