Microsoft will release feature releases of Windows 10 twice a year, each time in March and September. The company hopes that a predictable roadmap will make it easier for companies to switch. The next Redstone 3 update will come in September.

Microsoft is making the update cycle of Windows 10 coincide with that of Office 365 ProPlus, while that of System Center Configuration Manager must also fall in the semi-annual cadence. Each feature release will continue to be supported for 18 months.

With the release schedule, Microsoft hopes to provide clarity for companies in particular, so that they can prepare better and switch more quickly. The most recent update to Windows 10, the Creators Update, came out in April. The previous update, the Anniversary Update, came out in August.

The feature update that is scheduled to be released first, codenamed Redstone 3, will be released in September. That will include interface changes called Project Neon, x86 emulation on ARM systems and Power Throttling. The update after that will come in March 2018, but details about that are still unknown.
