Microsoft stops supporting Project Spark

Project Spark has been withdrawn from sale immediately, the maker Microsoft has announced. Then, in August, support will end, bringing the game content creation software to a definitive end.

The announcement was posted on Project Spark’s website. The software can therefore no longer be purchased immediately, but the fact that support from Microsoft will soon end also means that no more game content can be downloaded. Users will then no longer be able to upload their own content.

Those who have purchased Project Spark in the past will receive an amount on their Microsoft account. However, Microsoft has not disclosed how much this is. To be eligible, the software must have been purchased after October 5 last year; anyone who bought Project Spark before that date is therefore excluded. In addition, the Redmond-based company advises users to save their creations on their own PC.

Microsoft released Project Spark almost two years ago, after a six-month testing phase. The software provided users with tools to put together game content, with a choice of different types of game concepts. It was previously announced that no new DLC packs would be released, but now the curtain is finally falling.
