Microsoft has released the July update for the Xbox One, which introduces the FastStart functionality, among other things. This allows users to start a game early, while only a relatively small part of the files have been downloaded.

According to Microsoft, FastStart makes it possible to start a game twice as fast after a fraction of it has been downloaded. Once a game is launched prematurely, the download of the rest of the files will continue in the background. FastStart requires a minimum download speed of 20Mbit/s and is currently only available with a number of English-language games from the Xbox Game Pass catalog. Microsoft has not yet published a list of the games that work with FastStart. The company says it will soon expand the functionality to more games and also to other languages.

Voglens Microsoft differs FastStart from the existing, similar “ready to start” functionality of the Xbox One in that FastStart uses machine learning to identify which parts of a game must be downloaded first in order for the game to be playable. to make. The “ready to start” functionality requires manual work by the game publisher to select the files needed for playable rendering, and that can cause an inconsistent experience across games, according to Microsoft.

The July update for the Xbox One console brings a number of other innovations and improvements, such as better video quality when streaming games and an expanded option to better organize the library of games and apps. For the latter, the so-called Groups option has been introduced, which allows users to create different collections of content with a self-chosen name, so that the apps and games added to a group can be reached faster in the interface.
