With the Anniversary Update, Microsoft is introducing the ability to continue using apps on other Windows 10 devices. For example, the user must be able to finish an email that he is working on mobile on his desktop. Ultimately, this cross platform should work.

In the latest build of Windows 10 that Microsoft has provided to test users in the fast ring, there is an option in the privacy settings that allows apps to be opened from other devices. “Allow apps on your other device to launch apps and continue the experiences on this device via bluetooth,” it says in the settings. Reddit users discovered the presence of the option, which, incidentally, does not yet work.

The functionality is reminiscent of Handoff, a feature that Apple added with the arrival of Yosemite and allows iOS users to continue performing certain tasks on OS X. As with Apple’s platform, Windows 10 users will soon be able to perform tasks that they start on one device, such as working on Office documents or writing an email, directly on the other.

This capability is part of Project Rome, some details of which Microsoft disclosed at its Build conference last month. This presentation shows that it should not only be possible for apps to continue their service via Bluetooth on other devices that are nearby, but also via online services where the user is logged in. Finally, Microsoft demonstrated that the capability should eventually become cross-platform: An employee showed how entering the Bing URL via a launcher on Android opened the Bing search engine on a Windows 10 device.
