A Steve Jobs autographed Macintosh System Tools Version 6.0 floppy disk has been auctioned for $84,115. The floppy disk was initially valued at about $7,500, but the 3.5″ floppy disk ultimately yielded a significantly higher amount.

The floppy disk appeared on RR Auctions earlier this month, writes 9to5Mac. The description contained details of a Macintosh System Tools Version 6.0 floppy disk, signed by Steve Jobs in black felt-tip pen. The 1988 diskette was in good condition, although the ink had faded slightly. The diskette is pre-certified by RR Auctions. A full certificate of authenticity by a third party could be viewed in advance by any interested buyers. “As an iconic piece of MacOS software with Jobs’ iconic, stylish signature, this is a truly museum-worthy piece of computing history,” the auction site writes.

The diskette was initially estimated to be worth $7,500. That sounds like a lot of money, but it’s not unheard of. Objects signed by Steve Jobs are more likely to sell for thousands of dollars because the former Apple boss did not often sign objects. “He often refused to respond to requests from collectors.” Earlier this year, a Toy Story poster signed by Jobs was sold for more than $31,000.
