LibreOffice has released a test version of an upcoming app for Android. The LibreOffice Viewer allows users to view documents, spreadsheets and presentations on phones and tablets. According to the organization itself, the test version is not yet completely stable.

In addition to support for open standards such as odt, odp and ods, the app also has Microsoft Office support and can open .docx, xlsx and .pptx files. In addition, there is support for older Office formats such as .doc and .xls. Users can only use the viewer to view files; editing is not possible. In this test version things like links don’t work yet and it is also not possible to search for files from the LibreOffice Viewer.

Collabora has put the test version of the LibreOffice Viewer in the Play Store. Virtually all phones and tablets would be compatible with the app. According to the organization, there are more than 6800 compatible devices. The 46 megabyte app requires Android 4.0 or higher and uses the Firefox for Android engine to display files.
