LG shows The Frame competitor with a cloth plate that can cover part of the screen
LG has unveiled the Objet TV, a television within LG’s new Lifestyle TV line-up. This 65″ television has a fabric panel that can act as a kind of cover and can be moved with the push of the remote control to show more or less of the picture.
When users watch movies or TV series, this panel stays under the TV and fills the space between the TV and the floor. The television can also slide the panel higher, covering more than half of the screen and using the panel as a sort of cover.
In the latter mode, users see ‘a selection of lifestyle features’, such as a date and clock, a music player or a gallery of nature and space images. The fabric cover can be replaced with another one. All fabric panels are made by the Danish company Kvadrat and are available in beige, red and green. This television uses LG’s 65″ Evo-OLED panel and has an 80W sound system with 4.2 channels.
LG says the Objet TV ‘looks like a canvas’; it seems that the company wants to compete with Samsung’s The Frame with this television. The TV can be mounted flat on the wall or leaned against the wall at a five-degree angle. The cables are concealed in the frame.
In addition to the Objet TV, LG also writes about the StanbyME, a 27″ TV that has a battery that allows the screen to stay on for three hours. This model also has a stand with hidden wheels. The company sees the StanbyME as a ‘wireless private television”. The user can easily move the device to other rooms to watch TV series and movies, as well as to make video calls. The television can be turned, tilted and adjusted in height on the stand, and supports both portrait and as landscape modes. The television will have a removable holder that fits a smartphone, so that the user can make video calls with that phone.
The television has an LCD panel. Users can cast their Android or iOS screen to TV through Mobile Screen Mirroring. The television also gets USB and HDMI connections. The back of the TV is made of beige fabric.
Prices and availability are not yet mentioned for the two TVs. LG says it will bring the two televisions to CES early next year. Tom’s Guide notes that the StanbyME with model number 27Art10 has been on sale in South Korea since July for the equivalent of 781 euros. The Objet TV with model number 65Art90 will go on sale in the country on Wednesday, for the equivalent of 7430 euros.
