LG comes with a foldable 17″ OLED screen for laptops and tablets

LG has presented a foldable screen for laptops and tablets, which LG calls ‘Foldable OLED’. It has two layers of OLEDs on top of each other for a longer lifespan. LG calls this technology ‘Tandem OLED’.

By placing two layers on top of each other, the screen can be brighter when necessary, but the device divides the power between the two layers during normal use, so both layers should last longer. LG has been using this technology for a few years now in screens for cars, reports the manufacturer.

The disadvantage is of course that the production of Tandem OLED will be more expensive, because LG will in fact put two displays in one screen. The foldable OLED screen has a diagonal of 17″ and a resolution of 2520×1920 pixels. That is a 4:3 ratio and is the same resolution as previous foldable OLED screens for laptops and tablets. The ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold, among others, already had such a screen with the same resolution. The screen with Tandem OLED is now in mass production, but LG does not say which products it is already or will be in.
