Apple is investigating reports from a security researcher, among others, that various location options are suddenly enabled after the upgrade to iOS 17. However, that doesn’t seem to happen to everyone, notes 9to5Mac.

iOS 17 – location settings are enabled

The reset of the privacy-sensitive settings seems to happen to a small number of users, reports 9to5Mac. The site was told by Apple that the manufacturer is investigating the reports. Mysk reported that the options can suddenly be turned on again. Mysk previously raised the alarm about privacy issues surrounding iOS. There are two security researchers behind Mysk.

This concerns the Important Places and iPhone Analysis options, which can be found under Settings-Privacy and Security-Location Services-System. It is unknown why those options would suddenly be enabled after the upgrade to iOS 17. Apple released iOS 17 last week. Some updates have already appeared. For example, there is 17.0.1 with some fixes and 17.0.2, which solves the problem that users with an iPhone 15 cannot transfer data from a previous iPhone.
