Lenovo is releasing a smart display that includes support for Google Assistant. There are two variants, one with an 8″ screen and the other with a 10″ screen. The manufacturer seems to only release the screens in the US for the time being.

Lenovo’s announcement will take place at the same time as Google’s. The search giant writes that manufacturers such as JBL and LG will soon also come up with their own versions. The small version of the screen weighs one kilogram and is equipped with a touch-sensitive IPS screen with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The large version is 200g heavier and has a screen with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels.

They both run on a Qualcomm Home Hub Platform, in this case the 624 variant. It is equipped with eight Cortex-A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 1.8GHz. The screens have a five-megapixel camera on the front and are equipped with speakers and microphones. Wifi-ac and bluetooth are also available.

Google announced at CES that it is considering smart displays as a new product category. The devices can be controlled by voice or touch and can run various apps. The screens also run on Android Things. Google mentioned various applications for the devices, for example in the kitchen, for requesting recipes, or for monitoring the baby’s room. The screens could also function as a smart home controller.

Lenovo is currently only talking about a release in the US. It is therefore unclear whether and when the displays will be released in European countries. For the 8″ version, the price is $200 and for the 10″ variant, Lenovo is asking $250.
