Lenovo today introduces three new Motorola smartphones in the Benelux: the Moto G54 5G, Moto G84 5G and Edge 40 Neo. All three smartphones have a 50-megapixel main camera with optical stabilization and are available with an artificial leather back.

The trio is now for sale. The G54 5G is available with 128GB storage and 4GB RAM for 180 euros, or with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM for 200 euros. The G84 5G and Edge 40 Neo are only available here with 256GB storage and 12GB RAM, for 300 and 400 euros respectively.

Both the frame and the back of the devices are made of plastic. Some color variants have a smooth plastic back, but you can also opt for a faux leather finish, which feels a bit stiffer and on which fingerprints are not easily visible. The Edge 40 Neo, in line with the more expensive Edge 40 and Edge 40 Pro, has an IP68 waterproof housing. The Moto G84 5G is only splash-proof (IP54) and the G54 5G does not have an IP rating.

The new Moto G devices have three cameras on the back. The main camera is a 50-megapixel one with a sensor area of 50 square millimeters and optical image stabilization. There are few other devices with OIS in the price segment under 200 euros, and it is not yet common for 300 euros. The Moto G54 5G also has a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The Moto G84 5G has an ultra-wide-angle 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, which is also suitable for taking macro photos. The third camera on this device is a depth sensor. Both phones have a 16-megapixel front camera.

The Moto G54 5G and G84 5G run Android 13. Only the G84 5G supports Motorola’s ReadyFor desktop platform. Although Android 14 is just around the corner, it is the last Android version that the two will receive. Security updates are provided for three years.

Edge 40 Neo

The Edge 40 Neo also has a 6.5″ screen. Like other devices in the Edge series, the OLED screen has curved side edges. The refresh rate is a maximum of 144Hz and the peak brightness is 1300cd/m². The Edge 40 Neo has stereo speakers and supports ReadyFor, but does not have a 3.5mm port or memory card reader. The device is powered by a Mediatek 7030 SoC with 5G and Wi-Fi 6E support and has a 5000mAh battery.

Like the aforementioned Moto G phones, the Edge 40 Neo has a 50-megapixel main camera with a 50mm² sensor and ois. This time the ultra-wide-angle camera is a 13-megapixel one with autofocus, suitable for macro recordings. There is a 32-megapixel camera on the front. With the main camera, the Edge 40 Neo can shoot 4k videos at 30fps and like other Edge devices this year, the Edge 40 Neo has the stabilization function Horizon Lock. This means that the video image remains upright when the device is turned, but this only works when filming in 1080p resolution.

The box of the Edge 40 Neo not only contains a 50W charger, but also a case made of plant-based material. The box is plastic-free and printed with soy ink, and Motorola says it will offset the device’s CO2 emissions over an average life cycle through the CO2 Offset Service from parent company Lenovo. The manufacturer could not provide a definitive answer as to whether sustainable materials are used in the device in addition to the packaging. The update policy is well known: the Edge 40 Neo comes with Android 13, receives two OS upgrades and three years of security updates.
