Michelle Johnston Holthaus, executive vice president at Intel, said during an interview with PCWorld that a desktop version of the Meteor Lake CPUs is on the way. This CPU will appear on the market in 2024. No further details have been given.

Holthaus had suffered a few days a conversation with journalist Mark Hachman of PCWorld and he wondered whether a desktop version of the Meteor Lake chips would ever appear. Holhaus confirmed this and revealed that these desktop chips will be released in 2024. Holthaus indicated that it wants to serve both the desktop and laptop segments with “one processor family”. However, she did not yet provide details about the upcoming desktop chips.

Previous announcements from Intel indicated that Meteor Lake chips were only coming for laptops, but that appears not to be the case. The Meteor Lake chips are the company’s first consumer processors built from chiplets. These chips will have a CPU tile with only CPU cores, a tile with the IGPU on it and then a separate tile with all I/O and connectivity. The Meteor Lake chips will be the first semiconductors to be produced using the Intel 4 process. The American chip company will also use EUV lithography for the first time. Intel will release the first Meteor Lake processors on December 14 this year, which means chips for laptops.
