Intel is working on mini computers in the form of a large USB stick. According to the manufacturer, the stick can be plugged into a television or monitor. Intel itself does not disclose further details, but from previous reports it can be concluded that the sticks will get Atom-socs on board.

Kirk Skaugen of Intel’s PC Client Group showed the stick at an investor meeting, PC World writes. According to Skaugen, the compute stick brings “intelligence” to TVs and monitors. He compared the stick with ARM variants to Android, but with an x86 processor. He also made a comparison with the Dell Wyse Cloud Connect, an HDMI stick that runs Android and can be connected directly to screens. It can be concluded from Skaugen’s presentation that Intel ranks the sticks among the mini desktops.

In October, a dongle with an Intel Inside sticker appeared on the Chinese site Aliexpres. This is equipped with an Atom Z3735F quadcore of the Bay Trail generation, 2GB DDR3 and 16GB emmc storage. There are also micro USB ports, USB and a slot for micro SD memory cards, in addition to support for WiFi-n and Bluetooth 4.0. The site sold the stick for 118 dollars, converted 95 euros, but has since stopped the offer. Intel announced at the time that it was not behind the stick itself, but the group will probably supply a reference model on which third parties can base their models.
