Intel comes with higher clocked Pentium Gold and Celeron Gold processors

Intel will release new Pentium and Celeron processors with a higher clock speed. The top model will be the Pentium Gold G5620, with a clock speed of 4GHz. It is again about dual cores and the Pentium models have HyperThreading.

Intel has not yet announced the new processors, but some online stores have already included them in their range, writes AnandTech. It concerns seven new models, four of which are Pentiums and three Celerons. Compared to their predecessors, the only innovation seems to be the higher clock speed.

The fastest processor is the Pentium G5620, with a clock speed of 4GHz. That is 100MHz more than the Pentium G5600 that Intel already has in its range. It is not clear on which architecture the new processors are based, but it is almost certain that these are CPUs that are made at 14nm, just like their predecessors and all other current Intel CPUs.

According to listings in a German and a Finnish online store, the new Pentiums and Celerons will be available for sale from the beginning of March.

Update 13:01: There also seems to be a Pentium G5600F, with a disabled GPU. Tom’s Hardware noticed a listing of that processor at another online store. There may be more F variants. In practice, they are not cheaper than counterparts with GPUs, but Intel would release them to meet the demand. Budget processors have been scarce for some time, due to the high pressure on Intel’s 14nm process.
