HTC has applied for trademark rights in Europe and the US for the name ‘HTC Vive Focus’. It is the name for a VR headset. The Taiwanese company is working on a standalone VR headset that works on the basis of Google’s Daydream platform.

The trademark application has been filed in Europe with the European Union Intellectual Property Office by Grünecker Patent und Rechtsanwälte PartG MBB. The European application for the Vive, in 2015, also went through this company. In the US, HTC submitted the application to the USpto under its own name. Let’s Go Digital discovered that.

HTC describes the product for the application as a head mounted display for computer simulated reality and also mentions the presence of controllers. It is not known when HTC will unveil the HTC Vive Focus.

HTC has had a product page for a new standalone VR headset on its site for some time now. These are VR glasses based on Google Daydream, which do not require a smartphone or PC, so all hardware is incorporated in the headset. The headset supports 6DoF and comes with a Daydream controller, according to the product description.
