HTC, just like it did with the first One, has released a smaller version of the One (M8). With the HTC One mini 2, savings have been made on the camera, the soc and the battery, among other things. The phone will cost 470 euros and will be available for purchase from the beginning of June.

The HTC One mini 2 announced on Thursday morning includes a 1.2GHz quadcore Snapdragon 400-soc on board, where the original One M8 still had a 2.3GHz quadcore Snapdragon 801. Furthermore, the device has a 720p screen with a screen diagonal of 4.5 inches. This makes the One mini 2, as the name suggests, slightly smaller than the One M8, which has a 5″ screen. The phone comes with Android 4.4 and version 6 of HTC’s own Sense interface layer.

Compared to the One M8, it is not only the soc that is cut back. The battery is also slightly less impressive with 2100mAh than that of its big brother, which has a battery of 2600mAh. One mini 2 users also get less memory: one gigabyte, instead of 2GB with the One (M8). The small variant comes with 16GB of storage, where buyers of the One M8 can also opt for 32GB.

The One mini 2 is also slightly smaller than its predecessor, the One mini. It had a screen with a screen diagonal of 4.3 inches. The resolution of the screen is the same, reducing the pixel density from 342 to 326ppi. The device measures 137.4 by 65 millimeters, where the original mini is 132 by 63 millimeters. The big brother One (M8) measures 146 by 70 millimeters.

Furthermore, the small variant does not have an UltraPixel camera, which uses larger pixels to capture more light, but a normal camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels. Furthermore, the One mini 2 does not have a ‘duo camera’, with which photos can be focused afterwards. An infrared sensor, with which, for example, a TV can be operated, is also missing.
