HP announces Chromebook with screen resolution of 3200×1800 pixels

HP announced its high-end Chromebook 13 G1 for the business market on Thursday. In its most extensive version, the laptop has a Core m processor, 16GB of ram and a screen resolution of 3200×1800 pixels. The simplest configuration costs $499 in the US.

According to HP, the Chromebook 13 G1 was designed in collaboration with Google and the model appears to be a cheaper alternative to Google’s own Pixel. The Chromebook starts at $499 in the US, and buyers get a Pentium 4405Y, 4GB of memory and Full HD resolution in a fanless aluminum chassis with a thickness of 12.9mm and a weight of 1.38kg.

More expensive variants get the 3200×1800 pixel resolution and up to 16GB of RAM and Core m processors, of which the m7-6Y75 is the most powerful. There is 32GB emmc v5 storage memory. HP has provided the laptop with a USB-a 3.1 interface, two USB-c ports, a memory card reader and speakers from Bang & Olufsen. The Chromebook can be combined with the Elite USB-C Docking Station and there is a tmp 1.2 module for, among other things, hardware encryption. There is also support for WiFi-ac and Bluetooth 4.2.

Like the Pixel, the HP laptop has a backlight at the keyboard, but unlike Google’s own laptop, a touchscreen is not present. Last week, details about the specifications already came out through HP itself. In the US, the laptop with Chrome OS will be available in April, but when the model will come to the Benelux and at what price is not known.
