Game manufacturer Hasbro comes with a Mario version of Monopoly. The board game includes figures of Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi and Donkey Kong. Bowser is also in the game, as the final boss. Paper money has been replaced by coins.

Not only has the theme been adjusted, the Mario version of Monopoly also contains other game rules, Kotaku writes. For example, all characters have a Super Star option, which is activated when players are allowed to place their figure on a certain square. For example, Mario may roll the dice and take the corresponding number of coins from the bank. Donkey Kong steals three coins from each player if they use their Super Star feature.

The game also contains special cards with actions that match the Mario theme. The game is played with a regular die and a special Power Up die, which includes a red shield and coins. When players pass the Go plane, a boss fight begins. There are eight Boss Cards in the game and when all the bosses are defeated, the game is over. Players fight with the dice. The most expensive ‘street’ is of course Bowser’s Castle.

According to Kotaku, Hasbro is also coming with “physical DLC” for the game. There are Booster Packs that contain other characters from the Mario universe, including Luigi, Wario and Tanooki Mario. These figures each have their own Super Star ability and will cost $3 each.

Hasbro will release the Mario version of Monopoly in August for a suggested retail price of $25. Converted including VAT, that is about 26.60 euros. It is unknown whether the game and the expansions will also be on store shelves in the Benelux.
