Hackers steal login data on vBulletin Software servers
The company vBulletin Software has sent its forum users an email saying it has been the victim of a hack. Hackers allegedly stole login details, including encrypted passwords, during the break-in.
In vBulletin’s email stilt the software manufacturer that its security team has detected a sophisticated attack on its servers. This would have been carried out recently whereby, among other things, access would have been gained to login data, including passwords. The password data would have been encrypted, but it is unclear whether vBulletin has applied sufficiently strong encryption, along with salt. Users of the vBulletin Software forum should change their password.
vBulletin’s forum software is widely used on the Internet and has been hacked more often. The Hot Hardware website notice note that the Ubuntu and MacRumors forums, which have recently been hacked, both ran on vBulletin software. However, a direct connection with the hack at vBulletin has not yet been established.
