Hackers have broken into the servers that host Acer’s online store, possibly gaining access to a variety of customers’ personal information. This includes credit card details, names and addresses.

In a letter to US customers, Acer has revealed that it has been the victim of hackers. The letter in question was put online on a US government website. It is unclear whether it only concerns the American online store, or whether data from international customers may have been stolen as well. According to Acer, customers who placed an order between May 12 last year and April 28 this year are at risk of having their data stolen.

Whether personal information was actually stolen after the break-in has not yet been fully clarified, but Acer is warning its customers that credit card details with associated CVC codes, names, addresses and other personal details may have fallen into the hands of the hackers. The Taiwanese company claims to have notified payment processors and authorities.

It is not known who broke into Acer’s servers. However, the vulnerability that the hackers used to break into the servers of the web store has now been closed.
