For the first time this year, the hacker conference DEF CON will take place at the Las Vegas convention center instead of one of the Caesars hotels. The organization does not mention a reason for this, but visitors suspect that last year’s eviction is the reason for the move.

The organization behind DEF CON reports in an update that the annual hacker conference will no longer take place in one of the Caesars hotels this year, but in the Las Vegas Convention Center. In addition, the training sessions take place at the Sahara hotel. This year the conference will take place from August 8 to 11 in ‘Sin City’.

The hackers’ conference has been taking place for years in Caesars buildings, including the classic Caesars Palace and its conference hall. The organization indicates that it is surprised by the decision, which was imposed unilaterally by the hotel chain.

Caesars has also provided no explanation for terminating the contract. Some visitors speculate that the decision is related to the large-scale evacuation that took place last year. Then the entire exhibition floor had to be opened are cleared due to a suspicious bag left behind. Also, many casinos in Las Vegas were shut down shortly after the hacker conference hit by a large-scale ransomware attackalthough there is no link whatsoever between that attack and the presence of DEF CON attendees in the city.
