Google is reportedly releasing its AI model Gemini in January 2024. According to The Information, Google initially planned to release the model next week. The search giant is said to have refrained from doing so due to problems with queries in a language other than English.

The Information reports based on anonymous sources that CEO Sundar Pichai has decided to postpone the release of Gemini, which was scheduled for next week in New York, Washington and California, until early next year. Publicly, Google did not reveal anything concrete about the release date or its rescheduling since the model’s tease at I/O 2023. The delay is said to be due to unreliable responses to non-English prompts.

The AI model must be able to process and combine a wide range of advanced applications. For example, Gemini should not only be able to process, interpret and generate texts and images, but also be able to create other types of content based on a sketch or description, such as a website. Gemini reportedly uses significantly more computing power than OpenAI’s competitor GPT-4. Gemini is also expected to bring improvements to the company’s existing AI tools, including Google Bard, Google Assistant and Google Search.
