Google will pull the plug on Gmail’s HTML display in early 2024

Google will pull the plug on the HTML display of the Gmail web client in January 2024. This can be read on a support page. After the change takes effect, the web client automatically switches to the default mail client view.

According to Google, the HTML version of Gmail is intended for users with a slow connection and/or older web browser. Newer Gmail features such as mailbox categories and the spelling check are only accessible via the standard view. From January 2024 this view therefore becomes the only view.
