Google stops Nest app for smartwatches

Google’s Nest applications no longer work with smartwatches. Both Wear OS and watchOS are no longer supported. According to Google, there were too few people using the apps.

There are only a small number of people using the Nest smartwatch app, so it has been decided not to spend any more time on it, Google said in a statement to website 9to5google. From now on, Google will only focus on the complete apps for smartphones and on integration with Google Assistant. Users of a smartwatch with Google’s Wear OS can still control their Nest equipment via the Assistant, but that is not possible with Apple’s watchOS.

The smartwatch app allowed users to see notifications, set the temperature of Nest thermostats and set a Home or Away mode, among other things. It remains possible to receive notifications on a smartwatch via a link with the smartphone app, but the other functionality disappears. Users of the app will be notified that support has ended and that they must uninstall the application.
