Google releases new version of Glass Enterprise Edition augmented reality glasses

Google has announced the Glass Enterprise Edition 2. This is a new version of the first version presented in July 2017. That was a further development of the Google Glass, the glasses that came out for consumers in 2013 and made a new start for the business market.

According to Google, the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 will help companies increase the efficiency of their employees even further. The new version is said to have been improved based on feedback and is based on the Qualcomm XR1 platform. Unveiled a year ago by chip designer Qualcomm, this soc is optimized for VR and AR applications. Google talks about a “significantly more powerful multicore CPU and a new artificial intelligence engine”. According to the company, this will increase performance, support for computer vision and “advanced machine learning capabilities.” The soc is a quad-core that runs at 1.7GHz.

The new version of the Glass Enterprise Edition has improved camera performance, according to Google; it is a sensor with a resolution of eight megapixels and a field of view of 80 degrees. The new glasses should charge faster due to fast charge support via the USB-C connection and the battery capacity has been increased by 250mAh to 820mAh. Furthermore, the lpddr4 memory has been increased by 1GB to 3GB, there is 32GB of emmc storage and the glasses still run on Android Oreo. This time also Android Enterprise Mobile Device Management is supported. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5 are present and the projector is still in front of an eye; this module has a resolution of 640×360 pixels.
