Google has updated the iOS version of its Hangouts messaging service, bringing the version number to 2.0. The update brings the app in line with the appearance of iOS 7 and in addition some specific iPad functionalities have been added.
Google has refreshed the look and feel of Hangouts for iOS giving it a cleaner look, while also using a new font, a new loading screen, and an overhaul of the menus. In addition, new functionality has also been added. For example, iPhone and iPad users can now record video messages with a maximum length of 10 seconds and share them with friends and acquaintances.
Also, users can now add a map with location to the conversation and there are new animated ‘stickers’. One of the features added especially for the iPad is the ability to video chat with picture-in-picture. Hangouts is one of the most important apps for Google, and now that Facebook has acquired WhatsApp, instant messaging competition has intensified.
