Google Now seems to be getting music control support

Some Google Now users may use Google’s service to skip songs and stop playback. This function already works with Google Now in Android Wear, but now seems to be rolled out widely.

Smartwatch users with Android Wear can skip, start and stop songs with their wearable with voice control via Google Now. This did not work for other devices yet, but according to Android Police there are now users who can do this on their device.

When the functionality is activated, you as a user can say ‘play next song’ to go to the next song in the playlist. Also ‘stop music’ would work but further commands do not work yet. Through Android Wear, smartwatch users can also pause and skip tracks. When the functionality will work for everyone in Google Now is not yet known.

The functionality would be practical in Google’s own launcher, where users can say ‘ok google’ on the home screen to activate the voice control. The feature appears to be primarily for in-car use, where as many functions as possible should work via speech so users can keep their hands on the wheel.
