Google Lens, the service that can make searches based on photographed objects and can recognize plants and animals in photos, will be given a ‘homework filter’. With it, users can get help to solve math equations on a photo.

Google says Lens will soon have the functionality to help with an issue or comparison on a captured photo. Google uses the technology of the mobile learning app Socratic, which it took over a year ago.

After taking the photo, Lens highlights any equations or homework questions there. Then, after a selection by the user, a sheet appears with options to copy the text, send it to a computer with Chrome, or adjust the math equation. It is also possible to have the equation solve, followed by a step-by-step explanation and the answer.

In a similar way, the Homework filter can bring up maps of graphical elements from a photo of a scientific question, including explanations of the underlying matter. According to Google, these functions can be helpful in improving understanding of certain core topics.

In addition, Search 3d content will be available for almost a hundred topics related to Votesubjects, which usually concern subjects from exact and technical subjects. This is available for Android and iOS users. For example, if a user is looking for something about quantum mechanics, a close-up of an atom in 3d will follow. Augmented reality can then be used to bring the atom virtually into its own space.

These innovations are aimed at helping children with their homework and making learning and studying from home easier.
