Google has announced that a desktop version of chat software Allo should be available within a few weeks. The internet giant had already promised to come up with a desktop version of its new chat client.

Amit Fulay, who works at Google as Head of Product and is therefore responsible for Allo, among other things, said on Twitter know that the desktop version of Allo is still being worked on. It would take several more weeks to get the software ready for release, although no specific release date was announced.

In May, Google already announced that the desktop version of Allo should be released within two months. Since that deadline is almost over, it seems that the development has been somewhat delayed. Google has been saying since February that a desktop version is coming.

Google introduced Allo in September last year, to compete with WhatsApp, among others. It is a successor to an older chat service called Hangouts. It is still available by the way. Support for an even earlier chat service, called Google Talk, was discontinued last month after 12 years of service.
