Google appears to be working on a service for running local AI models on Android phones. The service, AICore, already runs on the Pixel 8 phones, but information in the Play Store indicates that the service will be available on more phones.

AICore is in the Play Storebut is only visible from Pixel 8 phones, reports Android Police. The service states in the listing that it is compatible with Android 12 and higher, while the Pixel 8 devices run on Android 14. The wording of the listing and the screenshots also indicate that more phones than just Pixels can run the service.

The intention seems to be that AICore automatically updates local AI models, after which apps can access and use those local language models. This makes it seem like a framework like the long-standing ARCore, which allows apps to use augmented reality via the camera image. Google has not responded to the information.
