GitHub has the first stable version of its CLItool released. GitHub CLI allows users to manage their repositories completely from a terminal. The software is free, open source, and available on Linux, macOS and Windows.

GitHub made version 1.0 available earlier this week. A beta version of the Command Line Interface tool was already introduced in February. The CLI tool allows users to use GitHub completely from their terminal through various commands. Users can use such commands to create new repositories and clone existing repos, view issues, pull requests manage and merges to carry out.

GitHub CLI should include context switching Reduce. Software developers working from a terminal have less need to switch between their terminal and the GitHub website with the tool. That should improve efficiency. Users can also use the GitHub API with CLI to set command aliases and “script and automate virtually all actions.” The CLI tool further provides support for repositories on GitHub Enterprise Server 2.20 or higher, in addition to repos on the service’s regular website.
