The French start-up Wizama has developed a game console specifically intended for board games. With the SquareOne, as the device is called, the manufacturer combines, among other things, a touchscreen with pawns

The SquareOne is built around a 19″ touchscreen and comes complete with pawns, a die and 54 “magic” playing cards. According to the developer, the console combines the old-fashioned coziness of the classic board game with the action and spectacle of today’s video games. Via sensors in the edge around the screen, bluetooth and nfc, pawns, cards and other objects are automatically detected and included in the game. The SquareOne also keeps track of the score.

For the catalog of interactive board games, Wizama collaborates with a number of leading game developers. Early titles include the tactical game Chromacy and the shooter Cosmo Squabble. The SquareOne will hit the market in the summer and will have a target price of $499.
