Flitsmeister has started Pickup, a parcel delivery service for which it uses the users of its app. Those users can earn extra by delivering a package, up to an amount of ten euros.

With Pickup, Flitsmeister is entering the market for local parcel delivery. An advantage over competitors, the company says, is that it can leverage its 1.7 million users for potentially fast deliveries. With the service, retailers can indicate that they want to have a package delivered, after which Flitsmeister users in the area will receive a notification if they have registered as a delivery person.

The user picks up and delivers the package. After that, that user can send a payment request to the retailer. For a distance of less than ten kilometers, the delivery person pays 5 euros. A delivery in which between ten and twenty kilometers is covered will yield 7.50 euros and for long distances of more than twenty kilometers the sender pays 10 euros. Flitsmeister earns ‘nothing from it yet’.

The recipient still has to manually notify that a package has been received, but Flitsmeister wants to automate this. The service also wants to offer insurance in the future, because packages are currently sent uninsured. Flitsmeister reports to AD that ten thousand users have already registered as a potential delivery person and 250 shops are interested in shipping.

Flitsmeister was originally an app that warns motorists about speed cameras, but the company has expanded its services to include navigation and its own hardware.
