Firefox lets users export saved passwords to .csv file

Firefox comes with an option to export saved passwords to a .csv file. For example, the passwords can be imported into other browsers. These are the passwords that Firefox stores in the built-in password manager.

The new feature is included in the Nightly version Firefox 79.0a.1. Users can go to about:logins there and export their logins, Techdows discovered. This allows users to import the passwords and usernames back into another browser or password manager. Firefox has previously indicated that importing data from external password managers will also be possible in the future.

The passwords are exported to a .csv format for easy transfer. The file contains the website, the username and password, the http-realm, the formaction, the GUID, and the times when the passwords were created, last used, and changed.

Since it is a .csv file, the passwords can be read in plain text. Firefox gives a warning about this. Users must then enter either their Firefox password or their Windows password. The latter only works if operating system authentication is set up for the browser.
